Over the years auto industry has offered many capable SUVs, all rightfully fulfilling their purpose. The Sports Utility Vehicle regime has seen a massive transformation. From simpler design and basic equipment to superior convenience and refined built.

1. Chevrolet Orlando

Orlando is a popular car that is running a successful innings in the European market. And now the company is planning to launch the same vehicle in India sometime later this year. Chevrolet Orlando is a spacious car with a seating capacity of seven people and it also offers a big boot space. As for the styling, the car features an aggressive and masculine stance with low roofline being its pro. Further, adding to its impressive styling are its prominent wheel arches that house 16 to 18-inch wheels.
Considering Orlando powertrain, it houses a 1.8-litre petrol and diesel mill under its hood. The former one produces a maximum power of 141 PS and peak torque of 176 Nm. The diesel variant is offered in two tuning, one producing 163 PS and other delivering 130 PS.

2. Tata Nexon

After Tiago, the next car that we are expecting to come out from Tata’s house is Nexon. This new SUV in India from Tata is based on the X1 platform, the one that underpins Zest and Bolt. Tata Nexon first made its appearance at the 2014 Auto Expo, where it was praised for its futuristic design. The inspiration for its exterior is taken from Land Rover Evoque, and Nexon beholds features like mesh grille and 17-inch alloy wheels. The interior is expected to be equipped with many modern comfort and convenience attributes. In the list are included gen-next Harmon Infotainment systems, floating console, automatic air-con system, heads-up display, and much more.
Powering Nexon will be Fiat borrowed 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel mill that will be paired with a 5-speed transmission. As for the petrol option, we are also expecting a 1.2-litre turbo mill generating 112 PS and 170 Nm.

3. Honda Vezel

Honda Vezel was showcased for the first time at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show as a concept car. After that, we didn’t hear from this car in the upcoming years, until the 2016 Tokyo Motor Show. At the said show, Vezel production model made a global debut. Unlike the earlier two cars, this one is a bit compact and when launched in the market of SUVs in India, it will rival the likes of Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster. As for its design language, Vezel is an attractive car and shares lot of its styling from Jazz. On the interior front, Honda has given Vezel a plush feel and added all sorts of high-end features. Also, the Japanese launched Vezel has a kit full of safety features and it is believed to bring the same configuration in India. To the long list of its safety features is included G-CON tech, ABS, Advance Compatibility Engineering, Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Body and City Brake Active System.
Honda Vezel is available only with a 1.5-litre 4-Cylinder petrol mill in the Japanese market, popping out 133 PS and 155 Nm. But for the Indian market, the 1.5-litre petrol will be accompanied by a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel mill. The said mills will be paired with a 7-speed CVT gearbox that will be powering either the front or all the four wheels according to the configuration opted.

4. Nissan Kicks

In the list of upcoming SUVs in India, we now have a Sports Utility Vehicle from the house of Nissan. Named as Nissan Kicks, this one is considered as the younger sibling to the globally launched Nissan Juke. The Indian market missed on the latter one but the former one is for sure to debut at the next Auto Expo. Nissan Kicks was first shown as a concept at the 2014 Sao Paulo International Auto Show. According to sources, Brazil will be the first country to witness Kicks launch. As for the Indian market, you can expect the car in next one and a half year and it will lie in sub-4 meter section. Nissan Kicks is based on the V-Platform that also underpinned Nissan Sunny and Micra. Also, Kicks is expected to resemble these two cars in many ways.
As for the engine setup, for the Indian market, we are expecting Kicks to be powered by a 1.5-litre K9K diesel mill. The said mill also servers one of the best selling SUV Renault Duster in India.

5. SsangYong Tivoli

Many are not aware of the fact that SsangYong is owned by the Indian automaker Mahindra. After launching two SUVs in India (TUV300 and KUV100, compact SUV), Mahindra is planning to further enhance its line with Tivoli. The said car displays a rugged exterior body with features like decked-up hood, flared wheel arches and tall shoulder line. Cabin is also integrated with modern amenities like 7” infotainment system, dual-zone climate control and push start/stop button. Under the hood of this upcoming SUV you’ll find a 1.6-litre 126 PS generating petrol mill.

6. Renault Kaptur

Seeing the growing market of SUVs in India, the French auto maker Renault will soon launch a new soldier, Kaptur. The said SUV has already been launched in Russia and is based on the European sold Renault Kaptur. But both of these cars differ on the dimension front, Kaptur being slightly bigger and built on a different platform than the later. Renault Kaptur when launched will be offered with both petrol and diesel mill options. As for the petrol option we are expecting a 1.6 litre 4-CYL naturally aspirated mill generating 104 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel mill on the other hand will produce a maximum power of 110 PS and peak torque of 250 Nm.

7. Renault Duster 7 Seater

When we talk about market of SUVs in India, who is not aware of Renault Duster? And now Renault is planning to introduce a bigger seven seater sibling of the said car. This new SUV in India will offer additional seating capacity, and so it is obvious to showcase bigger dimension. As a result, new Duster will be revised on the length segment by 4.5 meters, thus allowing the third row to fit. According to sources, the 7 seater Duster will showcase gen-next styling on all fronts. To the list of revisions are included revised grille, LED daytime running lights and new bumpers. The side will now feature sporty looking black cladding on the wheel arches. Lastly, the rear is expected to showcase attributes like restyled bumper, new set of tail lamps and modified tailgate.
As for the under hood configuration, Renault’s upcoming SUV in India will mirror the ongoing Duster setup. So, we are expecting to see the same 1.5-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol mill both mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

8. Volkswagen T-Roc

We are talking about to be launched SUVs in India, and how can we not mention Volkswagen T-Roc. The said Sports Utility Vehicle made its first global debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. But back then it was just a concept that featured an unconventional design, removable roof and two-door configuration. However, we are expecting a hell lot of changes in its production version, especially the one for the Indian market. On the exterior front, T-Roc is expected to display a 3D radiator grille, LED headlamps, fog lamps with LED turn indicators and large air intakes.
Powering Volkswagen T-Roc will be a 2.0-litre direct injection turbo diesel engine churning out a maximum power of 184 PS. The said mill will be mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission system, delivering power to all four wheels.

9. Maruti Ignis

There is no chance that a list related to upcoming SUVs in India misses an entry form Maruti. Maruti Suzuki is one of the most trusted brands on the Indian soil. Over the years it has introduced many successful SUVs like Gypsy and Grand Vitara. And now very soon the company is planning to launch Maruti Ignis. The said car was showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show for the first time under the name Suzuki iM4 concept. Then after a year it was introduced to the Indian audience at 2016 Auto Expo, to measure people’s reaction on the same.
Supporting Maruti’s upcoming off-roader is a 1.2-litre K-Series and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill. The former one produces a maximum power of 84 PS and peak torque of 115 Nm. While the diesel mill is efficient enough to generate 75 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque.

10. Toyota Rush

Last car to feature in the new SUVs in India list is Toyota Rush. The said car is already on sale in the international market and over the years has earned noticeable recognition. In some parts of the world, it is also sold under the name Daihatsu Rush. Toyota Rush will be introduced in Indian market with both five and seven seating configuration, as in the international market.
When introduced in the Indian market, Rush is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre diesel mill that is seen housing in Corolla Altis. The said mill is capable of churning out 67 PS of maximum power along with 170 Nm of peak torque.
