In order to maintain its lead, the company has plans to launch several new Maruti cars, besides refreshing its existing lineup.

1. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Petrol

The Brezza’s diesel version is already on the streets and the petrol option is due soon. There’s a rising demand for petrol cars in the country and the Vitara Brezza petrol version is likely to feed that. A 1.0 litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine, with an 110bhp power output at 170Nm torque, will power the car. The company may also introduce an AMT version early next year. The petrol variant, like the existing diesel version, is expected to come in several trims.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis

The Ignis compact SUV is unarguably one of the most eagerly awaited upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars in India. The car was first showcased at the New Delhi Auto Expo in February and is built with a high level of localisation. The Ignis has a tallboy design, an aggressive front fascia, pronounced wheel arches, and impressive ground clearance. It’s reportedly fitted with a new 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder, 70bhp petrol engine. The 1.5 litre, 90bhp diesel option is also available.

3. Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS

Enthused by the response to the new Baleno, Maruti Suzuki is about to launch a performance version of the car, christened as the Baleno RS. The car will be powered by a 3-cylinder, 1.0 litre BoosterJet petrol engine. The power output will be 110bhp at 170Nm torque. The premium hatchback is now available with a 1.3 litre DDiS diesel and a 1.2 litre VVT petrol engine. The Baleno RS is one of the most anticipated Maruti Suzuki cars in India and is expected to look sportier and edgier than the current version.

4. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV

Interest in the 7-seater variant of the popular Wagon R is mounting high among car enthusiasts. The car will be placed below the Ertiga MPV and above Eeco. It’s likely to come in two engine options, a 0.8 litre DDiS diesel unit, or a 1.2 litre K-Series petrol version. Maruti is known to price its cars right, and the Wagon R MPV could answer the affordable 7-seater, Indian buyers are looking for.

5. Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT

Maruti is expected to roll out the AMT version of the popular Swift by the end of 2016. The diesel version of the hatchback will be equipped with an automated manual gearbox, sourced from Magneti Marelli, which also controls the compact Dzire sedan. The 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine is expected to remain unchanged. The powertrain will deliver 74bhp at 190Nm peak torque.

6. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 Diesel

Maruti is rumoured to be working on the Alto 800 diesel version. The petrol trim has already got a midlife facelift. The new car will be fitted with a 2-cylinder 793cc engine which powers the Celerio diesel. Power output will be at 47bhp with 125Nm peak torque. The powertrain is expected to return an impressive 27.62kmpl mileage, almost identical to the Celerio.

7. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz 2017

This will be the first makeover for Ciaz. The company may retain the current 1.3 litre SHVS diesel engine. It’s speculated that the vehicle will be fitted with a powerful 1.5 litre M15 engine. It’ll replace the 1.4 litre K-series one. The car is rumoured to have a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT gearbox. The power output will top out at 100bhp at 133Nm peak torque.

8. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol

Maruti’s first ever crossover, the S-Cross will get a petrol trim next year. It’ll be fitted with a 1.5 litre, 4-cylinder M15 engine, and would be available in either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT gearbox. Design updates are unlikely to be there on the new car. It may emerge as one of the most powerful Maruti Suzuki cars in India.

9. Maruti Suzuki New Generation Swift

The new Swift is touted to receive major interior and exterior upgrades. On the outside, there will be a large hexagonal grille, new headlamps, floating roof, and new wraparound tail lamps. The inside will have a SmartPlay touchscreen entertainment system, automatic climate control, a three-spoke steering and other new features. The car will be based on the Baleno platform. A 1.0 litre BoosterJet engine will power the new Swift. It will be paired to a 5-speed MT or 4-speed AMT gearbox.

Maruti is already working on the compact sedan’s new generation model. The new Dzire, like the 2017 Swift, will be mounted on the Baleno platform. It’s expected to be 50-80kg lighter than the existing Dzire, and would be available in both diesel and petrol versions. Industry sources have said that the hugely popular compact sedan may be fitted with an in-house diesel engine from Suzuki.

The new Maruti cars are expected to further bolster the company’s dominance over the Indian car market.
