Sports cars are like movies, each year has its own set of blockbusters. We wait for their release like crazy and when they are finally out they create hype in the market, only to end with next set of big launches. The only difference between the two is, where a movie ticket is easy to get, a sports car availability is limited to few rich brats only.
Well, it’s been awhile since 2016 has commenced and we have some of the prominent sports cars already on Indian soil. But on the other hand, there are some who are yet to go down the aisle and greet the Indian auto market. It seems like they all are planning to knock the auto industry door during the last few months of the year, thus giving it a superb ending.
The list of soon and already launched sports cars is long but as said before there are some epic ones in the lot that take away all the attention. We have selected top 5 sports cars that you can look forward to in the following year.
1. Nissan GT-R

Displayed for the first time at the 2016 Auto Expo, Nissan GT-R is amongst the most promising would-be debutants of 2016. What was displayed by Nissan at the Auto Expo was the MY2016 model of the car, but the one that will go on sale in India is the facelifted 2017 GT-R. The said car is expected to go on sale this November and its bookings are now open where one has to deposit a minimum amount of INR 25 Lakh.
The 2017 Nissan GT-R is powered by a VR38DETT 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 mill that generates a minimum power of 525 hp along with a peak torque of 633 Nm. As for the transmission, the engine is coupled to a six-speed DCT gearbox that transmits power to all four wheels and in addition, features a launch control.
When launched, Nissan GT-R will feature company’s signature V-motion grille that will be accompanied by a restyled bumper, new hood and front lip spoiler. For enhancing its aerodynamic abilities, pooped-out side sills that direct the airflow. Also, in comparison to the previous version, the rear now looks more masculine and rugged.
The interior like the exterior is completely revised and will be seen equipped with a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, new steering wheel with integrated gearshift paddles on steering spokes and fewer controls on the centre console.
2. Audi R8

Audi R8 was launched by the company at the 2016 Auto Expo, where this beast was attracting onlookers like magnet. In the Indian market, Audi R8 is available in one variant and that too the top one that holds a whopping price tag of INR 2.47 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). Before blessing the Indian audience with its charisma, the car in 2015 was seen winning hearts at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Under Audi R8 smooth extended hood rests a 5.2-litre V10 monster, which also powers the Lamborghini Huracan. This highly efficient 610 PS generating engine is paired with seven-speed S-Tronic transmission and Quattro AWD system. As for its capabilities, the R8 V10 Plus displays a top speed of 330 kmph and hits the 0 to 100 kmph mark in 3.2 seconds. Increasing its performance and its fuel economy (by 10%) is its all-new Space Frame, through which R8 weight has reduced by 50 kg.
As for exterior and interior amenities, new Audi R8 is fitted with standard features like 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, virtual cockpit and dynamic turn indicators.
3. Lamborghini Huracan Spyder

It was only recently in May 2016 that Lamborghini India launched the third trim of Huracan, the Huracan Spyder. The car owing to the brand and its top-class performance spec has a price range starting from INR 3.89 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). Its engine configuration reads 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 mill that rests under its restyled hood. The said engine generates 610 PS of maximum power and 560 Nm of peak torque. Lamborghini has paired the new Huracan with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox that delivers the power to all four wheels. Attributing to its slightly heavier body frame, the Spyder Huracan goes from notch to 100 kmph in 3.4 seconds, i.e 0.2 seconds slower than its elder sibling, Huracan.
On the exterior front, not much have changed and it looks quite similar to the coupe trim. The only noticeable difference being the hood that now features larger air intakes and is completely packed. Also, its soft top operates at a speed of up to 50 km/h and can be deployed in 17 seconds with a push of a button. Huracan Spyder carbon fibre cabin is highly inspired from Huracan and Huracan LP580-2. The seats are covered with Alacantra upholstery and on the connectivity and entertainment front, it is fitted with Audi Virtual Cockpit display and a full instrument display.
4. Ferrari 488

After its world debut at 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari 488 was finally launched in India in February 2016. The car can be customised to customer’s choice given the endless list of optional features. The 488 with all standard features holds a price tag of INR 3.88 crore that would further increase owing to the customization level. As per the company, the car is 85 percent new and is improved to a major extent on the aerodynamic front. Also, it carries a few visible borrowed traits from the 458.
Ferrari 488 is powered by a 3.9-litre twin turbocharged 660 PS/760 Nm generating mill. The said mill is coupled to a new and improved 7-speed double clutch transmission, allowing to achieve a top speed of 330 kmph and reaching the 100 kmph mark in 3 seconds. The said Ferrari is designed at the company’s owned Design Studio and is highly inspired by Ferrari 458 styling. On the exterior, the 488 features a revised front fascia, large air intakes, revised taillight dual exhaust rear diffuser and many aerodynamic cuts.
For enhancing its performance vortex generators that stuck the car to the road, F1 inspired double-spoiler and aero pillar combination are present. The cabin gets F1 inspired touches too in the form of the new steering wheel, carbon fiber fittings and contrast stitching.
5. Porsche 911

The last car to feature on our top 5 sports cars in 2016 list is Porsche 911 that like R8 and Huracan was launched in February 2016. The 2017 Porsche 911 not only is blessed with head turning cosmetic upgrades but also gets a engine re-tuning. In its line-up are included four variants that are also available in cabriolet version – 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera S, 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S.
Under the hood, 911 Carrera and Carrera S house a flat-six engine producing 533 bhp of maximum power. As for the Turbo and Turbo S variants they are powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged mill. Both these mills are paired with Porsche’s eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox. As for the performance, the former two, i.e 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S can reach the 100 kmph mark from 0 in mere 3.0 sec, where else the Turbo variants can do the same in 2.9 sec.
