Baleno has been a runaway success for Maruti Suzuki ever since it was launched last year in 2015. Its stylish design and power packed performance has given its top rival Hyundai i20 some serious competition. Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS model will be the performance derivative of the regular Baleno and with it the company will enter the hot hatch segment. The car was first shown as a concept at the 2016 Auto Expo and garnered favourable response from the critics and buyers alike. The car has undergone some extensive testing ever since it was shown at the Geneva Auto Show.

A flat bottomed steering wheel could take the place of the multi functional steering wheel. The car is also likely to get aluminium pedals. Features like climate control, reverse parking camera and sensors and engine start/stop button will continue to be on offer.

For safety, the car will offer dual front airbags, ABS with EBD as standard.

The company is fitting Baleno RS with its tried-and-tested 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine that carries three cylinders and develops 110 bhp of power @ 5500 rpm along with 170 Nm of peak torque between 2000-3500 rpm. This is the same engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol compact SUV. The transmission system on the car is expected to be company’s signature 5-speed manual gearbox. It might also carry the same CVT unit that is present on the standard Baleno. The engine is expected to deliver a mileage of 20-21 kmpl.

The company claims the direct injection Powertrain of Baleno RS will be responsible for an exhilarating performance. This lighter 1.0-litre engine will contribute towards fuel efficiency and overall performance. The car’s stiffened suspension will make way for a decent handling experience. It will come fixed with rear disc brakes for better stopping power. Apart from its close rival Fiat Abarth Punto, Baleno RS will be the only affordable hatchback in India to flaunt all disc brakes.

Ahead of Competition

This soon-to-be-launched model will compete closely with Volkswagen Polo GT petrol that is loaded with a 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine that produces 104 bhp of power and 175 Nm of torque. It clearly outsmarts Polo GT in the power output department. It will also rival Fiat Abarth Punto and Ford Figo 1.5 in this hot hatch segment.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will be launched in November 2016 and will be priced at a slight premium over the regular 1.2-litre petrol model. Its price will fall in the bracket of Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 9.5 lakh (ex showroom Delhi). It was about to be launched in the festive season of the current year but the company was preoccupied in dealing with the long waiting period of Baleno and Vitara Brezza. Hence the launch has been postponed to November this year. The car will be positioned above the present Baleno line-up. It will be available for sale via premium NEXA dealerships all across the country.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS model is anticipated to catapult the sales of Baleno to new heights.
