Tata Motors is about to launch its new flagship model, Tata Hexa, in January 2017 and bookings for the same will begin from November 1. It was first unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and later showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The vehicle borrows features, powertrain and design elements from Tata’s British subsidiary Land Rover and is based on Tata Aria’s platform.

Killer Looks of Tata Hexa

Hexa shares its platform with the erstwhile Tata MPV, Aria, but it looks like a full-fledged SUV with features like squared-out bonnet and split grille, dual-tone bumper, 20 inch wheels, body cladding, roof rails and large wheel arches. The vehicle is 4764 mm long, 1895 mm wide and 1780 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2850 mm. It is expected to have a ground clearance of about 200 mm. Hexa gets a premium and upmarket look unlike Aria MPV. The vehicle is well proportioned and stylishly designed.

The cabin of Tata Hexa looks good with a dual tone dashboard along with leather covered captain seats. The cabin is, in fact, the longest one in its class. It flaunts a classy, and easy-to-understand instrument console. The steering wheel and the air-con vents have been lifted from Bolt and Zest. It will come with a six seater seat arrangement in three rows and will offer ample space for all passengers on board.
Powerful Diesel Engine

It packs in a 2.2-litre, four cylinder VARICOR 400 turbo diesel engine that develops 154.2 bhp of power @ 4000 rpm along with 400 Nm of peak torque @ 1700-2700 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission comes as standard. On top end variants, 4WD system is also offered. A six speed automatic transmission is likely to follow suit later on.

The powerful diesel engine of Tata Hexa is expected to return a good mileage of 13 kmpl with the manual version and 12 kmpl with the automatic version. The Multi Drive system (Eco/City/Sport) equipped in the car is expected to make this vehicle fairly fuel efficient.

Tata Hexa is the most feature packed vehicle from the company till date. It gets a Harman-sourced 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with USB, AUX, Bluetooth and SD card connectivity along with cruise control, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, a driver mode selector, ten-speaker JBL audio system, a colour multi-info display, ambient lighting with eight colour options and a reverse parking camera.
High On Safety

For complete safety of the passengers, it offers Electronic Stability Program, six airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle dynamic control, an engine drag control system and a traction control system. It will be equipped with powerful disc brakes at the front and at the rear. The vehicle is also likely to be equipped with Lane Departure Control and Collision Mitigation technologies.
A Powerful Performer

Hexa, with its high ground clearance and strong suspension set-up is expected to offer an amazing performance. It will host the Terrain Response system (Adaptive Suspension) featured in Land Rover. The Drive Mode Selector feature will offer four driving modes namely – Rough-road, Dynamic, Automatic and Comfort to suit different driving sensibilities.
The engine of the vehicle will be tuned for a decent performance and good fuel efficiency. The NVH levels of the engine will be low and it will make lesser vibrations.

Price and Competition

Hexa, one of the hottest upcoming crossovers, is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 12.5 lakh to Rs. 17.2 lakh. It will be positioned above Tata Safari Storme in the company’s line-up. Mahindra XUV500, that has received a mild facelift recently will offer serious competition to Hexa in the sub 20 lakh full-sized SUV segment. It will also challenge players like Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Innova Crysta.
