Maruti Suzuki Dzire is one of the best-sellers for the manufacturer and this time the company has not only refreshed the car in terms of styling but, has also tweaked its name a bit. Yes, the company has dropped the word Swift from the sub-compact sedan’s name and now it is tagged as Dzire. In terms of size, the sedan is still categorized under sub-4 metre category just like the previous version but, with a complete makeover.

The front is quite similar to the upcoming updated Swift but the smooth creases and curves grant the sedan its elegance for which it is known for all these years. Even the mechanicals are kept same and Dzire continues to feature same engine options. Although the updated version has made its entry a bit late in the year the company has already received 44,000 plus booking. Where most of the Dzire’s competitors have started in their updated avatars, the subcompact sedan has managed to prove its dominance in a significant manner. Although the Dzire is presented in a new package but, the power mills of both the variants are still the same. The 1.2-litre, four cylinder petrol engine delivers 83 hp maximum power and is silent as the previous model. The gear shifting is also smooth and nice just like before and you will not struggle between gears in heavy traffic where frequent shifting is required. On the other hand, the AMT version will push away all the hassles.

But, the AMT options also offers manual shifting through Tiptronic mode. The revs build in a linear manner and the power delivery feels nice and smooth. Pushing the engine gradually builds up the noise and once you cross the 3500 revs, the engine noise is audible in the cabin.

Considering the diesel variant, there is no major noticeable difference over the outgoing model. You have to wait for a significant time period to literally feel the power unleashed by the engine. Once the revs start building, the engine sets itself free while movement. The overall ride quality is improved and body movements over poor road conditions are improved to a significant extent.

Maruti Suzuki has carved the Swift Dzire into a competent sedan over the years. From Swift Dzire to Dzire, the sedan has covered a long journey. With the sedan entering its third-generation what the Japanese automaker has offered is a sub-4 meter package with a refreshed styling. The updated Dzire looks more proportionate than before and the rear windscreen is now steeper raked down. The boot now looks nice and stretched a bit, which goes well with the overall design theme of the sedan.

The face is completely changed with almond-shaped headlights and LED daytime running lights incorporated in it. The grille is also restyled with chrome garnishing and Suzuki logo that looks better than the previous model. The side profile is defined with smooth creases and 14-inch alloy wheels. The overall profile of the car also looks raised despite no significant change in the height of the sedan.

Just like exteriors, the cabin is also restyled to give a new appeal to the occupants. The beige and black color theme has been kept intact and the plastic material quality is same as in the previous version. The flat-bottom steering wheel, new instrument cluster, incorporation of wooden trims all-together gives Dzire quite a plush feel. The new front seats are more comfortable and supporting with cushioning feel that makes the long journey comfortable.

The driver seat is height adjusted and steering can be tilt and telescopic adjustable. There are plenty of storage options in the cabin and ergonomics, on the whole, are decent. With a slightly longer wheelbase standing at 2,450mm, the space for rear occupants is significantly improved. The boot volume is 378-litre which is respectable in the segment.
