Nothing is clear as to why Jaguar took so long to launch a luxury SUV considering the popularity of this segment but this surely comes as a major shift for the brand that is famous for its sports sedans and coupes. Tata owned luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover showcased the car at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and it would be available for sale in India by October 2016. The car has already been released in the European markets.
While most of the underpinning of the car have been borrowed from XE and XF sedans, the company claims that as much as 80% of its parts are all new. The five passenger car has been dubbed as an “ultimate practical sports car” by the company. This Jaguar F-Pace review will find out whether it actually is.
The sporty exteriors and spacious and tech-rich interiors of this vehicle are sure to strike the right chord with the buyers. The accurate, wheel weighted steering along with sure footed handling make it a thorough performer on roads. It feels moves and sounds like a genuine Jaguar.

Jaguar SUV Performance

Performance is what Jaguar brand excels in and Jaguar F-Pace takes this legacy forward. It stands near the top of the class on overall dynamics. It offers the agility of a much smaller car and is brilliant to handle. The engine is highly responsive and fairly quick. The ZF gearbox is slick to use. At higher speeds, the car might feel heavy on some uneven road surfaces but there is no perceptible body roll. It offers a wonderful off-roading experience considering the ride quality is neither too stiff nor too soft. There is a marked sophistication and elegance with which the car does it’s duty and that makes it a complete pleasure to drive.
Jaguar F-Pace SUV Exterior

This SUV from Jaguar looks every bit sporty and glamorous. It has all the elements of a performance SUV such as a wide stance, raised beltline, short overhangs and a long hood.
The athletic design, inspired form the F-Type Coupe, is what one would expect from a mighty company like Jaguar. With a wheelbase of 2873mm, and at 4732 mm long, 1935mm wide and 1666mm tall, it falls dimensionally between Porsche Cayenne and Porsche Macan. It is bigger than it looks in the images. The 22 inch wheels look spectacular and make it look like a tall sports car.
The front profile of the car carries elements like sweptback headlamps, trademark mesh grille with the feline logo, louvers on the bonnet and chrome garnish on the front bumper. Flared wheel arches, high ground clearance, and rear sloping roofline, make the side profile truly mesmerizing. At the rear, it flaunts switchblade style wrap around the taillights just like the F-Type coupe. What comes as a new feature at the rear is the neat integration of the quad tailpipes into the pseudo bash plate element.
The extensive use of aluminium in its construction gives this car the benefit of strength and weight.

This tech-rich SUV from Jaguar picks up DNA of the new XF sedan. The ambience of the cabin and the whole architecture, including the multi functional steering wheel, the front of the dash and the new 8 inch (optional 10.2 inch) centre console touch screen, is similar to XF. This touch screen system can be used very much like a Smartphone as it comes with pinching and swiping features to access menus and maps. Overall, the design is surprisingly simplistic but impressive at the same time.

A luxurious feel is evoked with leather lined seats, wood inserts and high quality plastics. The company offers several standard features to keep up with the competition like four zone climate control, full digital instrument cluster, touch screen infotainment system, the company’s famous rotary gear knob and the contrast coloured seats.
The utilities like large door bins and five power sockets make the cabin apt for modern families. The most notable aspect of the cabin is generous knee room of 65 mm and legroom of 944 mm and at the rear that matches the space offered by Audi Q5. The car offers a boot area of 650 that can be extended to 1740 liters by folding the second row seats. It is more than any Jaguar has offered till date.
The steering of the car is controlled by a new variable-ratio, electric power steering system that has been attached with an additional mounting point to give it more stiffness.

The car comes equipped with a new Adaptive Surface Response system that is an evolved version of Jaguar’s previous winter mode. It helps in managing throttle, stability control system and transmission depending upon the surface being driven on. It also carries the ability to wade through 20.7 inches of water. The company claims the infotainment system of the car to be the best in the world, offering an immense processing power. Called the “In Touch Control Pro”, it features a Quad core processor, 100GB Solid State Hard Drive, a 10.2 inch touch screen, 17 speaker Meridian music system along with a 1GB/s Ethernet that can make connection with eight devices at once using the WiFi hotspot. The navigation feature of the car is extremely intuitive and it gets social media integration coupled with voice recognition to enable the driver to tweet while driving.
Another interesting feature comes in the form of “Activity Key” that is a water-proof wearable band. It acts as the vehicle’s secondary key fob.

2017 Jaguar F-Pace scores highly in the safety department. It gets several standard safety features like Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-Traffic Detection, Active Cruise Control, Automatic Parallel and Perpendicular parking, along with a heads-up display that shows vehicle speed, speed limit, navigation directions and other important information.
The company has put this SUV to extreme weather tests to prove its worth under rugged situations. It also comes fitted with a system that gives audible warning if it senses a drowsy driver at the wheel. Moreover, the car also boasts of pedestrian detection system and automatic emergency braking.
Competitors of 2017 Jaguar F-Pace

Porsche Macan is arguably the best sports crossover in India that matches Jaguar F-Pace in driving dynamics and also is similarly priced. It will thus offer stiff competition to F-Pace. Porsche Cayenne, Porsche, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q5 and BMW X6 M are the other luxury SUVs that stand against Jaguar F-Pace in the same segment and offer a close competition. Jaguar F-Pace price is lesser than BMW X6 M but higher than that of Audi Q5.

The company has built this performance SUV to be fun to drive on the weekends and at the same time be functional enough for daily driving. And it looks like it captures both the arenas easily. Strong performance, best-in-class cabin space, advanced technology and a slick electronic interface make Jaguar F-Pace a vehicle to reckon with in the luxury SUV segment. Judging by the initial impression and as deducted from this Jaguar F-Pace review, this SUV is likely to not only present a tough fight to its rivals but also lead the segment.
