Many changes have been made in the design of Fortuner and it now looks sleeker and more modern as compared to the old model. It shares its platform – Toyota New Generation architecture – with Toyota Innova Crysta. This platform makes new Fortuner lighter and stiffer than before. An upmarket appeal is generated by the generous use of chrome all around.
While the old Fortuner sported boxy headlamps, the new model gets are sleek projector headlamps with LED DRLs that register an imposing presence. The bonnet is flatter and longer than before.
The side profile is also quite different and the new Fortuner is a lot curvier than its predecessor. It gets an unusual window line with a prominent kink around the C-pillar. The side cladding on the old Fortuner was of body colour but now the new Fortuner get black cladding. Electric tailgate and LED lamps have been added at the rear while the wraparound look for the rear windshield has been retained.

Coming to interior comparison, there is sea change in the look and the feel of the cabin. The interior of new Fortner is taken to the next level through incorporation of soft touch materials and leather seats. The look of the dashboard is neat and uncluttered. The colour theme of grey and beige has given way to a more sophisticated looking black and beige.
A large touch screen infotainment system has been added to the centre of the dash. The three spoke steering replaces the four spoke one and it now offers mounted telephony and audio controls. Also, the amount of space in the second and third row is expected to increase.

The new Fortuner will be equipped with 7 airbags (including knee airbag for driver), as opposed to dual airbags present on the old model.
