Mahindra XUV500 is available in only diesel trims and it offers automatic gearbox on as many as seven variants. Hyundai Creta petrol gets its power from the 1.5-litre Dual VTVT engine that develops 122 bhp of power and 254 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variants carry the larger 1.6-litre U2 VGT CRDi diesel mill that emits 126 bhp of power and 260 Nm of torque. Renault Duster AT gets a 1.5-litre dCI K9K THP diesel engine that produces 108 bhp of power and 248 Nm of torque.

Mahindra XUV500 offers two diesel engine options-2.0-litre and 2.2-litre. The former churns out 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of toque while the latter is known to offer 140 bhp of power and 330 Nm of torque.

The transmission on offer on all of the engines of these three vehicles is 6-speed automatic.

It looks smart and sporty and borrows design elements from its elder sibling Santa Fe that is known for its brawny looks. Duster carries an immense road presence with its rounded edges and oversized wheel arches. The facelifted version of this car has done away with certain garish design elements and the front end looks quite mature now. It is very well proportioned too.

Crux – Out of all the three cars, it is Creta that impresses the most in terms of exterior design. It is not as loud as XUV500 not as curvy as Duster and the design is such that it grows on you.

The cabin of Creta is tastefully designed with dual tone theme of beige and black. It boasts of decent cabin quality. The front seats are a bit raised to give you that SUV-like feel. The dashboard looks classy and there are ample storage spaces in the doors. The car could have done with a bit more rear headroom though and also better plastic quality. But even with its minor shortcomings, it easily overshadows the cabin of Mahindra XUV500 and even that of Duster in terms of aesthetics. Plastic quality on XUV500 leaves much to be desired and the driving position offered is not very good. But the vehicle sure takes the cake in space department by offering ample legroom, head room and shoulder room to the passengers.

Renault Duster gets a black and brown colour theme. The space on the inside is not as good as XUV500 but definitely better than Creta. Its large windows also make it feel more spacious than Creta.
