As anticipated, Swedish automaker Volvo has launched its Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid car in India today priced at Rs. 1.25 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The vehicle is already available in diesel version and this hybrid version has become the first plug-in hybrid SUV in India by any carmaker.

The car was showcased at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show and has been deemed as the most luxurious Volvo car in the company’s 89 year history. It also happens to be the most expensive car from the company.
Volvo XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid is based on the company’s modular Scalable Product Architecture. It derives its capabilities from the T8 twin engine plug-in hybrid powertrain as standard. This four cylinder, inline, 1969cc supercharged and turbocharged petrol mill develops 315 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid is also powered by a 9.2kW Lithium Ion battery that produces 87 bhp of power along with 240Nm of torque. In all, this whole hybrid set-up helps in churning out 402 bhp of power and a decent 640 Nm of torque. The engine has been combined with 8-speed automatic transmission that offers three different driving modes – Hybrid, Pure and Power. The car can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.6 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 230 kmph.

Similar to the diesel model, Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid measures 4950 mm in length, 2008 mm in width, 1776 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2984 mm.
Aimed at the premium luxury SUV category, the car carries impressive features like Bowers and Wilkins Surround Sound System with 20 speakers, air suspension on all wheels, panoramic sunroof, 9 inch touch screen, Nappa Leather upholstery and many others. The adjustable rear seats of the car come with features like ventilation, massage and heating along with specially designed headrests.

The vehicle boasts of latest radar based safety features and garners 5-star GNCAP safety rating. It also gets advanced safety features like Blind Spot Detection, Collision warning with auto-braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, rear collision warning and Park Pilot Assist.
The company is offering two charging stations with the car, the price of which is included in the total cost of the car. Using these stations, the car can be charged in just 2.5 hours and will offer up to 80 km of emission free driving per day. In the hybrid mode, Volvo XC90 T8 emits just 49 g/km (European Cycle), making it the world’s cleanest seven seater SUV.
