The much-awaited SUV from the house of German automaker has finally landed in the Indian market. Yes, Volkswagen Tiguan has been launched in India at a price tag of Rs 27.98 lakh. The SUV is offered in two variants which include Comfortline 2.0-litre TDI and Highline 2.0-litre TDI. Unlike the discontinued Touareg, the all-new Tiguan is locally assembled at the company’s Aurangabad plant.

The SUV is based on the company’s new MQB platform which is quite competent and a part of various other recently launched models of the VW group. Even the upcoming SUVs from Skoda will be based on the MQB platform. With Tiguan entry in the high-end SUV segment, the cars like Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, Isuzu MU-X, Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner gets a new competitor.

The SUV is well loaded with features which include auto full-LED headlamps with DRLs, three-zone climate control, electronically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function and electrically operated tailgate. The top-end variant gets a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch Alloy wheels and LED tail lamps as additional features. In the cabin, VW Group’s Composition Media infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen is offered. The system is also accompanied by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with 8-speaker system to please the audiophiles.
VW is known for providing state-of-the-art safety features in its cars and the all-new Tiguan is no exception as it is packed with six airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ABS, Traction control and EDTC (Engine Drag Torque Control). The SUV is also backed with an active hood feature for pedestrian safety, rain-sensing wipers, aspherical driver’s ORVM, tyre pressure monitoring system and electronic parking brake.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is offered with only one engine option which is a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that delivers 143 PS maximum power and 340 Nm Peak torque. The SUV is further mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. It also features VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive setup with various drive modes and an electronic differential lock. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency of the Tiguan measures 17.06 kmpl but, the real time figures will be revealed once after the car is tested.
