Tata Tigor launched in India at Rs 4.70 lakh


The sedan sibling of one of the much acclaimed Tata’s hatch, Tiago has finally made its way to the Indian market. Yes, Tata Tigor has been recently launched in India at a starting price of Rs 4.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The sub-4 meter sedan was first tagged as Kite but, it was renamed later. The sedan was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 and shares Tiago’s platform. Even the design cues are quite similar to Tata Tiago just the extended boot makes the difference.

The exterior features include blacked out headlamp cluster with projector low beams and a halogen setup with LED daytime running lights. The petrol variant is offered with 15-inch wheels while the diesel model gets 14-inch alloy wheels. The overall dimensions of this sedan measure 3992 mm X 1677 mm X 1537 mm (L X W X H) and the wheelbase stand at 2450 mm with a ground clearance of 170 mm.

In the cabin, you will find good quality plastic materials and at the centre, a touchscreen console with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The other features of Tigor include a multi-function display unit, infotainment system, smartphone, and app connectivity apart from standard USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Finally, Tata has come up with a product which will be able to compete against Maruti-Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Aspire.

Under the hood, the petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre engine which delivers 84 hp maximum power and 114 Nm peak torque. This engine is further coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Whereas, the diesel variant comes with a 1.05-litre engine with 67 hp maximum power and 140 Nm peak torque. This is also coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The AMT version is already on the cards and will be launched in India soon.

Let’s see if Tigor can repeat the success of Tiago or fails to attract the consumers just like Zest.
