The Indian manufacturer, Tata is working from quite a long time on Discovery Sport based SUV. Taking a step ahead for putting the car in production phase, Tata Q501 is exported to US for testing. The few units of Tata Q501 SUV will be tested on various aspects, which include crash testing as well. According to the sources, the company is also planning on its elder sibling, Q502 but, nothing is confirmed yet on its launching date. The all-new Tata Q501 is expected to be equipped with Fiat’s engine, a 2.0-litre MJD unit. This is the same engine which is being used for the Fiat 551 SUV. Further, the SUV will be offered in both manual as well as automatic transmission, and will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility. A rear wheel-drive is fixed as standard for the SUV, while an all-wheel drive is decided for the top end variant.

When talking about the seating arrangement, the new Tata SUV will be offered in both 5-seater and 7-seater option. There are no pictures of the SUV yet but, as it is based on Land Rover Discovery Sport, we expect some styling cues to be carried forward in the Q501. Once on road, the Tata Q501 will be placed against the likes of SsangYong Rexton, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Currently, Tata lacks a top end SUV in its lineup and introducing a high end full fledged SUV will be a wise step to enhance its grip in the market. It is also expected that the company will showcase the new Q501 SUV in the 2018 Auto Expo.
