After the success of the 800cc Kwid, Renault was planning to introduce a bigger engine option from sometime. Finally, the manufacturer is set to introduce the Kwid 1L SCe by the end of this month. Currently the Renault Kwid is available with 0.8-litre 3-Cylinder SCe petrol engine, which delivers maximum power output of 52 hp and peak torque of 72 Nm. The success of the compact hatchback can be seen from the hundred thousand bookings registered till date. This impressive response has forced the manufacturer to introduce a bigger engine option as well for the customers.

The Kwid 1.0-litre variant will be able to deliver power in the range 65-70 hp and will match the fuel efficiency close to the 0.8-litre variant. This will make a Renault Kwid a step ahead from Hyundai Eon and Maruti Alto in terms of efficiency. The engine will be coupled to 5-speed manual gearbox and R-AMT version will be offered in the top end models. Currently, Maruti-Suzuki Alto is offered with Automatic transmission and with Kwid entering in the Automatic segment, the Alto will face tough competition. Considering the price range, the 1.0-litre variant will fall between INR 3.3-4.2 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of exterior and interior styling, the Renault Kwid 1L SCe will be identical to the 800cc variant. The feature list include front power windows, ORVMs, rear spoiler, a touchscreen Media NAV system, a digital instrument cluster and similar features to the existing 0.8L model. In addition to the dual front Airbags, seat belts, and crumple zones, ABS system may be also introduced to give an added advantage over the competitors.
