Finally, after much anticipation, the elder sibling of 800cc Kwid has received a launch date and Renault India will bring the Kwid 1.0-litre in Indian market on August 22. Along with the launch date of Kwid 1.0-litre, the company has also revealed the specifications of this hatchback and seems like Alto K10 will face a tough competition from this upcoming Renault hatch. The manufacturer had already initiated the booking for the 1.0-litre Kwid and one can book this hatch with a deposit of INR 10,000.

Positioned to target people who are looking for a more powerful hatchback in the entry level segment, the new Kwid will be equipped with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine which will deliver a maximum power output of 68 PS and peak torque of 91 Nm. Initially it will be offered with 5-speed manual transmission and an Automatic variant may also arrive later this year. The company claims that the bigger engine capacity Kwid will match the fuel economy standards of the 800cc one and will deliver a mileage of 23.01 kmpl. Considering the dimension, features, styling and safety, they are all same as that of cheaper 800cc variant, the only difference lies in the powermill.

If we consider, what difference the Renault Kwid 1.0-litre holds in terms of engine output then it is quite similar to its rivals except the power-to-weight ratio which is best in class for Kwid due to its light kerb weight. Although, the fuel economy falls slightly short back than Alto K10 but still it offers a respectable figure being a petrol hatchback. The expectation for Kwid 1.0-litre is already high, as the younger variant has already clocked a sales count of 75,000 since its launch in last September. Let’s see how the Renault Kwid 1.0L SCe performs and hinder the market share of Hyundai Eon and Maruti-Suzuki Alto K10.
