New Toyota Fortuner Launched In India


The much-awaited car of the year is finally here. Yes, the new Toyota Fortuner is launched in India at a starting price of INR 25.92 lakh and the top-end variant tagged at 31.12 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). The full-size SUV from Toyota is now lighter, more aggressive and gets a bunch of styling tweaks with a new set of engine options. This is the first time that Toyota Fortuner has received such a major update since its launch in India back in 2009. The SUV borrows its underpinning from the recently launched Toyota Innova Crysta.

The new Toyota Fortuner is available in six trims which include 4X2 Petrol with Manual transmission, 4X2 Petrol with Automatic transmission, 4X2 Diesel with Manual Transmission, 4X2 Diesel with Automatic Transmission, 4×4 Diesel with Manual Transmission, and 4X4 Diesel with Automatic Transmission. All the 4X2 models are equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels along with all terrain tyres while the 4X4 models feature 18-inch wheels with highway terrain tyres. The engine options include a 2.8-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol. These engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Some of the key highlights of the cabin are leather upholstery, steering mounted controls, multi-way adjustable seats, ambient lighting and touchscreen multimedia system. Apart from the new equipment, the interior has been refreshed completely to give a premium feel to the occupants, which was missing somewhere in the previous version. Though it did not hamper the sales. The list of safety features in the new Toyota Fortuner include 7 SRS airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD ( electronic brake distribution), Brake assist, hill-start assist control (HAC), vehicle stability control (VSC), emergency stop signal (ESS), downhill assist control (DAC), trailer sway control (TSC), reversing camera, emergency stop signals and 3-point seat belts with emergency locking functions.

The new Toyota Fortuner will be battling against the ISUZU mu-X, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Hyundai Santa Fe. When we look at the features and specs on paper of Toyota Fortuner, it again sounds promising and likely to repeat the success history for Toyota.
