Bad news for the people who were waiting for the upcoming Tivoli, the Indian manufacturer has confirmed that it won’t be bringing the SsangYong Tivoli to India. The particular announcement was made by Pawan Goenka, the Executive Director of the company, at the 56th Annual ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association Convention). After the showcase of SsangYong Tivoli at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the Indian market was expecting it anytime near Diwali to rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson. Even, the car was spotted testing few months back that further build expectations of its launch in the country.

But, Mr Goenka told that Mahindra has not acquired SsangYong brand to bring its models in the domestic market. He even indicated that there are no plans of bringing any car from SsangYong in the Indian market. Apart from this, it was reported that the Indian manufacturer is developing a compact SUV which is based on the Tivoli’s X100 platform. According to the progress, it is expected that the car will be ready for production in the next 15 months. This compact SUV will will be placed higher than the NuvoSport and will also mark the entry of a 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Mahindra’s line-up.

Further, the company might also introduce a production version of the XUV Aero concept which was showcased earlier at the Auto Expo. Commenting on the current status of the Korean based company, Mr. Goenka revealed that the company has seen a significant improvement in terms of market share from the last 3-4 years. This is a huge step for a company, which was almost bankrupt at the time of acquisition.
But, with Tivoli not coming to India, the Hyundai Tucson will now have a bit easy path to grab a significant market share, as Tivoli was the only direct competitor of Tucson. Let’s see how Hyundai turns this opportunity in its favour.
