After Delhi Auto Expo 2016, the American automaker has delayed the launch of its vehicles multiple times. But, now Jeep has finally decided to make an official launch of its much awaited SUVs, the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler on September 1. For the moment, the FCA owned off-road brand will only offer its two models in the Indian market and later it might introduce the complete line-up. For the retro-style Wrangler, the company has planned to sell it in the long wheelbase “Unlimited” trim only.

The off-roader will be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine which delivers maximum power of 197 hp. The another model, which will be the mainstay for Jeep is the Cherokee and few days back the manufacturer revealed the information about the upcoming SUV on its Indian website. According to that, the Jeep Cherokee will be offered in Limited, Summit and the SRT trims which will also embark the Jeep’s “SRT” performance brand in India.

Cherokee’s Limited and Summit variants will be equipped with 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine churning out maximum power of 240 hp. While the SRT high-performance variant will be featuring a mighty 6.4-litre Hemi V8 petrol motor, which will be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Like, Limited and Summit variants, the Cherokee SRT will also get a four-wheel drive system along with all-wheel-drive system for improving on road presence, launch control, track mode, hill descent control, Brembo high-performance brakes and active damping suspension.

The other features of Limited trim include ventilated power adjust steering wheel, 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 506W amplifier and an optional 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, individual rear seat displays, panoramic sunroof, rear limited slip differential and satellite navigation. The prices of Jeep Grand Cherokee will start from INR 85 lakh and the SRT version might clock INR 1 crore approximately. Both, the Jeep Wrangler and Cherokee will make their entry next month as completely built units.

In addition to this, the brand is also looking to introduce an entry level C-segment SUV, which will be manufactured locally. The C-SUV might be priced between INR 13-20 lakh and the power range is expected to be in the range 105-120 hp from a 1.5-litre Fiat Multijet diesel engine. Starting with 5-6 dealerships, the American automaker is in the process of adding some more dealers in the near future.
