Turning the speculations true, the South Korean automaker is now gearing up to introduce its premium hybrid sedan, the Ioniq at the Auto Expo 2018. The manufacturer has already conducted an extensive feedback program and now given green light to introduce Ioniq Hybrid to compete against the Japanese automaker’s offering, the Toyota Prius. Due to the active protests, attempts and measures adopted by activists, environmental agencies and courts, the promotion of cleaner hybrid and electric vehicles is already high in the country.

And for Hyundai, this is the right time to introduce the Ioniq Hybrid. Hyundai will take the advantage of the market condition and has decided to introduce a green wave from Delhi Auto Expo 2018. Initially, the Hyundai Ioniq will be a CBU (import) unit and later, it will be a CKD (completely-knocked-down) unit. To make Hyundai Ioniq hybrid in India, is a big decision from the manufacturer. It will be a risky decision as the particular segment has still not seen a significant rise despite the awareness being created about green cars in the country.

Also, Hyundai is aiming to sell approximately 100 Ioniqs every month, which is quite a big target for the particular segment. The South Korean automaker is also preparing to price the Ioniq Hybrid strategically and it is expected that the car will be priced in the range Rs 25 lakh – Rs 30 lakh. This will make the Ioniq cheaper than its direct rival, the Toyota Prius.
Under the hood, the Ioniq is powered by a 1.6-litre GDi petrol motor which delivers 102 hp maximum power and 146.4 Nm peak torque. The electric motor delivers 42.4 hp maximum power which makes the total power output of 144.2 hp and 315.8 Nm peak torque. The power is transmitted to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Hyundai Ioniq will carry premium features along with a green and efficient engine, which might interest the buyers of premium car segment in a significant manner. But, we cannot confirm before the car is introduced in the market.
