Honda Accord Confirmed For An October Launch

Honda Accord is the flagship product of the Japanese auto brand in the Indian market. The car first made its debut in the country in 2008, but shortly after that, it was discontented due to low sales figures attributing to its high price tag. Now, in an attempt to revive its charm, Honda India is planning a re-launch of the car. This time around, we’ll be getting the ninth generation Honda Accord and it is believed to go on sale this October. Honda Accord launch confirmation was given by Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda India at a dealership inaugural ceremony.

The all-new Accord was also on display at the 2016 Auto Expo that hinted towards its second-innings in the Indian market. But what’s different this time around is that in addition to a petrol variant, Accord will also be available with a Hybrid tuning. This is rather exciting, seeing the growing acceptance of consumers and low number of cars present in the Hybrid section currently. When launched, Accord Hybrid variant will compete against Toyota Camry, its only known rival for the time being.

Honda Accord Hybrid trim will be powered by a 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol mill and two electric motors powered by a 1.3 kW lithium ion battery. The said engine effectively churns out a maximum power output of 196 bhp, of which 141 bhp is produced by the 2.0-litre petrol mill. As for the torque figure, we are expecting it to be somewhere close to 300 Nm. Being a hybrid and keeping up to its virtue the trim promises a fuel efficiency of 23kmpl and low carbon emission of 99 gram/km. The said trim also carries Clear Blue accent grille and Hybrid badging on the rear that differentiates it from the petrol variant.

Talking about Accord petrol variant, it will be powered by an 185 bhp producing 2.4-litre engine. As for the gearbox setup, all-new Accord 2.4-litre mill will be paired with a 6-speed manual and CVT unit.

When launched Honda Accord is expected to come stuffed with best-in-class amenities both on the safety and entertainment front. Like Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System, six airbags, Active Cornering headlamps, rearview camera and 7.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Nothing is said officially about its price tag, but knowing its flagship status Honda Accord is expected to range between INR 28 – 35 Lakh.
