In the season of multiple launches, the Italian manufacturer, Fiat has launched the Urban Cross in India. The base Active diesel variant has a price tag of INR 6.85 lakh while the top variant, “Abarth” powered model has a tag of INR 9.85 lakh. Showcased as a concept at the Delhi Auto Expo this year, the production version of Urban Cross is much more like the concept. It is quite similar to Avventura, as it holds the same raised ground clearance (205 mm) and similarly designed bumpers, the only difference lies at the rear where the Urban Cross misses the tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Now the spare wheel is equipped in the conventional location in the boot, just like any other hatch. The Urban Cross is offered with two engine options, one is 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine which is also equipped in the Punto Evo and delivers maximum power of 93 hp. The petrol mill is more powerful as the 1.4-litre T-Jet engine churns out a maximum power of 142 hp and is powered by Abarth. Both the engine options are mated to 5-speed manual transmissions. The petrol variant is only available in Emotion trim while the Active and Dynamic trim options are available in the diesel variant.

In the top-spec Abarth version, one will get 16-inch “Scorpion” alloy wheels while the other trims are available with piano-black finish alloy wheels. In the cabin, Fiat Urban Cross has a Smartech 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth as standard. Considering the festive season around, the interior are Burgundy themed with colour coordinated door inserts, piano finish door armrests and seats. Fiat is looking to expand its market share in the cross-hatch segment where the other competitors like Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Polo Cross and Hyundai i20 Active have already marked their lead in terms of sales.
