Hot Hatch is the new segment which is gaining a significant response from the customers across the globe and some of the prominent automakers are the ones who are ahead in introducing their hot hatches first. One such automaker is Audi, which is known for producing power packed, performance oriented cars and Audi RS1 is the next in the company’s lineup. The new RS1 will act as an upgraded version of the current A1 hatchback till the second generation debuts in 2018.

Positioned as a sister model to parent company Volkswagen’s upcoming Polo R, the RS1 will be be competing against a number of performance based hot hatchbacks, one of them is Ford Fiesta ST. But, the aim of this hot hatch is to interfere in the market share of the Mini John Cooper Works. Sources have also revealed that Audi Sport division has been extensively benchmarked against the hot Mini. The Audi RS1 will be powered with Audi’s majorly used EA888 engine, which will be a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, which is tuned to provide better power figures and patented for valve lift system to provide continuously variable camshaft control.

It is expected that the maximum power will be around 284 hp and peak torque around 500 Nm. There will be two gearbox choices, one is standard 6-speed manual and the other is the newly developed 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. Along with S1 now the RS1 will be also equipped with four-wheel drive system as standard. With this improved engine output, the Audi RS1 will clock 0-100 kmph mark in a time span of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph just like its elder sibling Audi S1.
For Indian market, the German automaker is set to introduce new A4 and facelift of A3. Along with these two, this German automaker will also introduce this Hot hatch, the RS1.
