Last Updated On: August 24, 2016

After the global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March, the Audi Q2 is all set to make its entry in the Indian market as well. Audi India is planning to bring the entry level crossover by the end of this year. Aimed to attract the young achievers, the upcoming crossover will be the smallest offering in the Q series. The all-new Audi Q2 is based on the Volkswagen group’s MQB platform, which is also the base of Skoda Superb, Audi A3 and the upcoming Volkswagen Passat.

The youngest member of the Q family is offered with six different engine options, 3 TFSI petrol and 3 TDI diesel units, delivering power between 116 PS and 190 PS. These engines are offered with a choice between 6-speed manual or a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. As the company’s focus is shifting towards more petrol engines for the Indian market, we expect that all-new Q2 will be offered with at least one 1.4-litre TFSI engine, which is also the powering unit for the new Audi A4.

The available features for this crossover include blind spot assist, radar guided cruise control, lane keeping assist and a dashboard mounted multi-media screen just like its elder siblings. To meet the global demand, Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt, Germany is producing 2500 cars in a day, which includes 450 Audi Q2 daily. India will also receive the Audi Q2 lot from this plant only and is expected to be priced around INR 25-28 lakh. The Audi Q2 will be competing against the likes of BMW X1, Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Mahindra SsangYong Rexton, Ford Endeavour and Honda CR-V.

It will be interesting to see how Audi Q2 will shake the dominance of Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market.
