2018 Hyundai Accent revealed in Canada

One of the key models in the lineup of the South Korean automaker has received a major update. Yes, 2018 Hyundai Accent, the competitor of Honda City, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has made its global debut. The sedan has been revealed at this year’s Canadian International Auto Show. The 2018 year model is now more sophisticated and equipped with advanced features.

The body of 2018 Hyundai Accent consist of 54.5 percent Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS), which was 41.5 percent in the previous model. The higher percentage of AHSS ensures improved collision performance and also contributes to reducing the overall weight of the sedan. And with a new chassis, the torsional rigidity is improved by 32 percent. This helps in better noise isolation and driving dynamics as reported by the company.

The 2018 Hyundai Accent features a more striking exterior which is inspired from its elder sibling, the updated Elantra. The cascaded grille at the front is slightly revised while the sweeping headlights are now equipped with projectors and daytime running lights (DRLs). The sedan is now equipped with 17-inch alloys which improve the sportiness of Accent in an effective manner. The overall dimensions of the car are tweaked a bit and now measures 4385 mm X 1729 mm X 1,450 mm (L X W X H). Even the wheelbase of the car is enhanced by 10 mm and now reads 2580 mm.

The cabin is more driver-oriented and now equipped with high-quality materials and premium features to take the cutting edge over the competitors. The high-end variants further get red contrast hues and stitching to aggrandize the overall sporty feel of the sedan. The updated equipment list gets automatic climate control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Canadian model is powered by a 1.6-litre Gamma GDI inline-four engine which produces 132 PS maximum power while the peak torque rest at 161 Nm. The engine is further coupled to either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The safety features are also updated and the 2018 Accent comes with six-airbag system, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control and anti-lock brakes. The sedan is expected to arrive in the global markets by Q3 and the Indian launch might take place by the year end.
