Since the introduction of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai’s prominent premium hatchback has seen a tough time in managing the leading sales number. One of the prominent reason for this was the high pricing of the i20 over Baleno. So, to match the pricing of its key competitor, Hyundai has introduced a refreshed i20 with new prices and features cut. Hyundai has introduced a new Marine Blue shade, along with two new dual-tone exterior color options – Passion red and Polar white.

Both these new shades get all-black interiors with contrasting orange inserts. The 2017 Hyundai i20 Asta variant is priced at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). According to an official brochure of the 2017 i20, the equipment list is also revised and the car gets 7.0-inch touchscreen AVN system and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto with MirrorLink connectivity.

Apart from adding some new features, the 2017 Hyundai i20 Asta trim now misses out on push button start, alloy wheels, auto-up-down function for the driver window and rear washer and wiper. The particular variant still gets 16-inch wheels. The Sportz trim now misses out on features like reverse camera, auto climate control and tilt and telescopic adjust for the steering.
A new variant called Magna Executive is introduced which is positioned below the Magna variant. The Magna Executive misses out on features like steering mounted control, Bluetooth connectivity for the audio system, keyless entry, and rear parcel tray. In addition to this, the standard Magna will be only available in the automatic version.
Under the hood, the 2017 Hyundai i20 petrol is powered by either a 1.2-litre Kappa dual VTVT paired with a 5-speed manual or a 1.4 dual VTVT with four-speed automatic engine options. The diesel variant gets a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi with a six-speed manual gearbox. The i20 has always attracted the consumers with its advanced features, competent design and power packed performance, but the new variants are lacking some of the key features which might push the customers to pick its competitors over i20. Let’s see how the strategy of Hyundai works for the betterment.
